Congratulations Kate Vieira Pfitzer!
“SHARE welcomes Kate to this important new role. Although SHARE has been providing support services and educational programming for the MBC community for over 30 years, Kate’s appointment will ensure the growth and strengthening of existing programs as well as the creation of innovative additional programming to more precisely meet the needs of the community,” said Christine Benjamin, Vice President of Patient Support and Education. “She joins the staff with a deep knowledge of the needs of those living daily with MBC and a fervent desire to support and serve.”
Diagnosed with MBC in 2015, Kate has been a committed member of Share’s MBC volunteer team since 2019. She has served as an MBC Helpline volunteer, MBC support group facilitator, and a host and producer of the OMBCL podcast. She is a passionate believer in the power of the MBC peer community to educate and empower people to advocate for the best possible care and quality of life. “There’s nothing more important than being surrounded by people who know what it’s like to live with this diagnosis,” she said. “I’m inspired every day by the resilience of my MBC peers, and I’m grateful to have this amazing opportunity to ensure that no one with MBC ever feels alone.”
Kate graduated with honors and earned a Master of Science degree in Healthcare Policy and Management, Community Health Education and Planning, an Advanced Certificate in Healthcare Management, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. While she dreams of driving a race car in Europe, until then she enjoys playing guitar, spending time with family and friends, and getting away to the mountains any chance she can get. Kate lives in New York with her husband and three sons.
